Founder’s Message
In 2023, we officially announced the launch of the Institute for Trauma Informed Systems Change – Angola, marking a significant milestone in a journey rooted in healing, equity, and sustainable transformation.
My visit to Angola represented far more than a ceremonial launch—it was the embodiment of years of relationship-building, learning, and shared commitment. During this visit, several foundational milestones were accomplished, including a walkthrough of the Institute’s physical site, meetings with architects, and receipt of the completed planta(architectural blueprint). These moments signaled a powerful transition from vision to tangible reality and affirmed what is possible when purpose is met with partnership.
One of the most meaningful aspects of this work has been walking alongside the Angolan Fellows I have mentored and coached over the past two years through my Training for Change curriculum. Together, we have thoughtfully adapted trauma-informed principles to the Angolan context—honoring culture, history, and lived experience. These Fellows are not only learners; they are leaders. They will teach, train, and champion trauma-informed systems across Angola and throughout the African continent, ensuring that this work is locally led, culturally responsive, and sustainable.
At its core, the Institute for Trauma Informed Systems Change exists because we believe systems can heal—and that when systems heal, people do too. This work is about transforming education, health, leadership, and community structures so they no longer retraumatize, but instead foster safety, dignity, and possibility.
This journey would not be possible without the steadfast support of my husband, Daniel. We share a deep belief that a trauma-informed world is a better, safer world for all, and his partnership has been a constant source of strength and encouragement.
